Terra Basket

WRITTEN PATTERN OF TERRA BASKET

MATERIALS

2.5 mm macrame cord (100 yards)
3.5 mm crochet hook
6-inch wooden basket base (with 12 or 13 holes on each side – see Pattern notes)
leather handles
tapestry needle
stitch marker

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
beg = beginning
ch-sp = chain space
sc = single crochet
st = stitch
yo = yarn over
blo = back loops only

Special stitch:
reverse sc = working from left to right (instead of usual direction) insert hook from front to back in next stitch to the right, yo, pull through the stitch, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook

Pattern notes:
– In the tutorial, I demonstrate how to attach a 6-inch wooden basket base with 12 holes on each side. If you can find a 6-inch base with 13 holes on each side, it will make it easier to space the granny stitches evenly than with the 12-hole option.

BASKET BASE

Make a magic ring:

Round 1 = ch 5 (counts as 1st dc and 2ch), (dc 3 in the ring, ch 2) 3 times, dc 2, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
Round 2 = sl st in ch2-sp, ch 3, dc2 + ch2 + dc3 in same space, (ch 1, dc3 + ch2 + dc3 in next ch2-sp) 3 times, finish the round with sc in 3rd beg ch.
Round 3 = ch 3, dc 2 in same space, ch 1, dc3 + ch2 + dc3 in next ch2-sp, (ch 1, dc 3 in next ch-sp, ch 1, dc3 + ch2 + dc3 in next ch2-sp) 3 times, finish the round with sc in 3rd beg ch.
Round 4 = ch 3, dc 2 in same space, ch 1, dc 3 in next ch1-sp, ch 1, dc3 + ch2 + dc3 in next ch2-sp, (ch 1, dc 3 in next ch-sp, ch 1, dc 3 in next ch-sp, ch 1, dc3 + ch2 + dc3 in next ch2-sp) 3 times, finish the round with sc in 3rd beg ch.
Round 5 = ch 3, dc 2 in same space, ch 1, (dc 3 in next ch1-sp, ch 1) twice, dc3 + ch2 + dc3 in next ch2-sp, [ch 1, (dc 3 in next ch-sp, ch 1) 3 times, dc3 + ch2 + dc3 in next ch2-sp] 3 times, finish the round with sc in 3rd beg ch.
Weave in the beginning tail before attaching the board.
Attaching to the wooden board: place the finished granny square against the wooden board, which features 12 holes on each side; the next round attaches the crochet to the wood by working double crochet stitches through both the crochet fabric and the pre-punched holes in the wooden base.
Round 6 =
- ch 3, dc 2 in the same space, inserting hook through the 3rd hole from the right on the wooden base as you work the stitches.
- *ch 1, skip the next hole on the base, and dc 3 in the next ch-sp through the following hole on the base; ch 1, skip the next 2 holes on the base, dc 3 in the next ch-sp through the following hole; skip the next hole on the base, dc 3 in the next ch-sp through the following hole; ch1,
- corner: dc 3 in the corner ch2-sp through the 11th hole on the base, ch 2, turn the piece so the next side faces you, dc 3 in the same corner ch2-sp through the 2nd hole on the next side of the base, skipping the corner hole; ch 1, dc 3 in the next ch-sp through the next (3rd) hole on the base.
- repeat from * around;
- after completing the final corner and working the last 3 dc, ch 1 and sl st in 3rd beg ch.

BASKET SIDES

Round 7 = ch, *sc in each dc, skipping ch-spaces; corner: sc in corner ch2-sp, (work long sc inserting hook through the same ch2-sp and corner hole on the wooden base, yo, pull up longer loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook) twice, sc in same ch2-sp; repeat from * around; finish the round with sl st in 1st sc.
Round 8 = ch, sc in each stitch around, sl st blo in 1st sc.
Rounds 9-11 = ch, sc blo in each st around, sl st blo in 1st sc.
Rounds 12-17 = work in continuous rounds, sl st blo in each st around.
Round 18 = *reverse sc blo (see Special stitch) in next st, skip next st, repeat from * around.
Cut off, fasten off, weave in the end.
Attach the handles.
