JOINING SQUARES
- Joining the First Two Squares (continue with the joining using the working yarn):
- With the right sides facing up, align the two squares.
- Insert the hook through the middle single crochet of the first square, working from front to back through the back loop only. Then insert the hook from front to back through the back loop only of the corresponding stitch on the second square. Yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook to complete a slip stitch.
- Continue working back loop slip stitches, inserting the hook through the back loop only of the corresponding stitches on both squares. Work one slip stitch in each pair of matching stitches across the edge.
- When you reach the corner, continue working back loop slip stitches across the corner, then join the second sides of both squares in the same manner, working through the corresponding back loops of each square.
- Finish with the final back loop slip stitch in the middle single crochet at the corner. Fasten off.
- The first two squares are now joined along two sides.

- Joining the Third Square:
- Before joining: crochet the third square to the last single crochet of the final cluster. Do not slip stitch into the next single crochet like on the first and second square.
- Continue with the joining using the working yarn and ch 1.
- Count to the third stitch on Square 1 and sl st, inserting the hook from back to front, yo, and pull through both the stitch and the loop on the hook.
- Ch 1, then sl st into the corresponding stitch of Square 3.
- Ch 1, then sl st into the next stitch of Square 1.
- Continue alternating in this manner until 6 slip stitches have been worked in total—3 into Square 1 and 3 into Square 3.
- Continue joining the two sides of Squares 2 and 3 using the back-loop slip stitch technique: insert the hook through the back loop only of the corresponding stitches on both squares and work one slip stitch in each matching stitch across.
- After joining Squares 3 and 2 with back-loop slip stitches, repeat the chain and slip stitch sequence on the opposite side of the bag, joining Squares 1 and 3 where they meet at the corner.
- Fasten off and weave in all ends.
- Attach the leather strap.
