Crochet maple leaf – part 2

Last fall I showed you how to crochet the small orange maple leaf and I promised to write up the pattern for the bigger green leaf.

So finally I’m ready to share the video tutorial and written pattern of the bigger leaf with you.

In my video tutorial of how to crochet maple leaf part 2 I make a red leaf because it reminds me of my recent trip to Vancouver BC. It was my first time to visit the city and I totally fell in love with it. I would go back anytime. So here are some photos from the trip.

WRITTEN PATTERN OF MAPLE LEAF

I use crochet thread size 3 and crochet hook size 2 mm.

Abbreviations:
sc = single crochet
ch = chain
blo = back loops only
st = stitch
sk = skip
hdc = half double crochet


Center leaf

Ch 16.
Round 1 – sc in 3rd ch from hook – total 14 sc, ch 4 and sc in other side of chain – total 14 sc, ch 1 and turn.
Round 2 – skip 1st sc, sc 13 in back loops only (blo), sc 2 in ch4-space, ch 4, sc 2 in same space, sc 11 blo, ch 1 and turn.
Round 3 – skip 1st sc, sc 12 blo, sc2+ch4+sc2 in ch4-space, sc 12 blo, ch 1 and turn.
Round 4 – skip 1st sc, sc 13 blo, sc2+ch4+sc2 in ch4-space, sc 12 blo, ch 1 and turn.
Round 5 – skip 1st sc, sc 13 blo, sc2+ch4+sc2 in ch4-space, sc 12 blo, ch 1 and turn.
Round 6 – skip 1st sc, sc 13 blo, sc2+ch4+sc2 in ch4-space, sc 12 blo, ch 1 and turn.
Round 7 – skip 1st sc, sc 13 blo, sc2+ch4+sc2 in ch4-space, sc 12 blo, ch 1 and turn.
Round 8 – skip 1st sc, sc 13 blo, sc2+ch4+sc2 in ch4-space, sc 12 blo, ch 1 and turn.
Round 9 – skip 1st sc, sc 13 blo, sc 5 in ch4-space, sc 12 blo.

Side leaf

Round 10 – ch 5, turn and sc in 3rd ch from hook and sc 1 in each next 2 ch, sc 5 blo – total 8 sc. Ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next st through both loops, ch 1 and turn.
Round 11 – skip 1st st, sc 10 blo, ch 5, turn and sc in 3rd ch from hook and sc 1 in each next 2 ch, sc 11 blo – total 14 sc. Ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next st through both loops, ch 1 and turn.
Round 12 – skip 1st st, sc 16 blo, ch 4, turn and sc in 3rd ch from hook and sc 1 in next ch, sc 19 blo – total 14 sc. Ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next st through both loops, ch 1 and turn.
Round 13 – skip 1st st, sc 18 blo, ch 1, turn, sk 1st sc, sc 18 blo. Ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next st through both loops, ch 1 and turn.
Round 14 – skip 1st st, sc 16 blo, ch 1, turn, sk 1st sc, sc 16 blo. Ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next st through both loops, ch 1 and turn.
Round 15 – skip 1st st, sc 14 blo, ch 4, turn, sc in 3rd ch from hook and sc 1 in next ch, sc 5 blo – total 7 sc. Ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next st through both loops, ch 1 and turn.
Round 16 – skip 1st st, sc 9 blo, ch 4, turn, sc in 3rd ch from hook and sc 1 in next ch, sc 10 blo – total 12 sc. Ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next st through both loops, ch 1 and turn.
Round 17 – skip 1st st, sc 14 blo, ch 4, turn, sc in 3rd ch from hook and sc 1 in next ch, sc 15 blo – total 17 sc. Ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next st through both loops, ch 1 and turn.
Round 18 – skip 1st st, sc 16 blo, ch 1, turn, sc 16 blo. Ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next st through both loops, ch 1 and turn.
Round 19 – skip 1st st, sc 14 blo, ch 1, turn, skip 1st sc, sc 30 blo across the edge.

Second side leaf

Repeat rows 10-19, when you have made 14 blo of round 19, ch 1, turn, skip 1st sc and sc 13 blo (instead of 30) + 3 sc to reach the middle part.

Stem

Ch 12, hdc in 3rd ch + hdc 1 in each next 9 ch, total 10 hdc, sl st in leaf and fasten off.
