How to crochet daisy doily

April 23, 2020

Stop and smell the flowers! And crochet the beautiful daisy doily designed by Fugiko Takagi.

It is easy to crochet but 27 rounds will take some time, so this is a great project if you are looking to work on something bigger.

I definitely recommend blocking the finished doily. I usually make the doily wet, stretch it out on blocking mats and attach it with pins. I also spray some starch to give it extra firm shape.

WRITTEN PATTERN OF DAISY DOILY

I use Aunt Lydia’s crochet thread size 10, yellow and white. Crochet hook is size 1.5 mm. My doily measures about 16 inches in diameter and I tend to crochet quite tightly.

My Amazon picks:

Abbreviations:
R = round
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
dc = double crochet
beg = beginning
tr = triple crochet

Special stitches:
beg 3dc-cluster = ch 3, start 2nd dc in same space, leave last 2 loops on hook, start 3rd dc in same space, leave last 2 loops on hook, pull through all 3 loops on hook.
3dc-cluster = start 1st dc, leave last 2 loops on hook, start 2nd dc in same space, leave last 2 loops on hook, start 3rd dc in same space, leave last 2 loops on hook, pull through all 4 loops on hook.
  • With color A ch 6 and sl st in 1st ch to make a ring.

    Hi again Raine! Hope you’re keeping well – at least crocheting is a good indoor activity :).

    I finished the 3D doily, which I did in a 20-thread salmon-pink colour, and will probably only do once – as a fellow tight-worker, those sc’s were a bit of a pain, though the result was definitely worth it. I took it over to show my Mum, and left it there for her to enjoy for a while.

    I’m currently on row 25 of the daisy doily, and sorry! – but I think I’ve found another pattern error. Again, the video seems fine, the error is in the written pattern. In the * section, I think it should be “skip first dc, dc 1 in next dc, skip last dc” rather than “skip first dc, dc 1 in each next 3 dc, skip last dc”.

    Thanks again for sharing your lovely work!

    Kind regards,
    Karen

      Hi Karen,
      So glad your 3d doily turned out nice!
      You are absolutely right, on round 25 the written pattern should read *skip first dc, dc 1 in next dc, skip last dc.
      I changed it and I’m glad it’s correct on video because I can’t change that after it’s published.
      But written pattern is now updated and thank you again for your keen eye!

      Aunt Lydia’s thread size 10 White has 400 yards in one ball and it was enough for the daisy doily.
