I found another great project for DMC denim cotton. It’s such a fun new yarn from Italy, I’m a big fan! And it’s perfect for the cute crochet XOXO bag.
Buying it from my local crafts store the other day, the lady behind the counter pointed it out from my other yarns saying how much she liked it and then we both said as if on cue “It’s so cool!” Good to find a fellow-fan 🙂
On the light blue bag I use Lion Brand Jeans brown yarn for Xs and Os. This combination creates an illusion as if the letters are cut out of leather and stitched on denim fabric. And the letters serve a great purpose to practice your tapestry crochet skills.

And here are the tips of how I made my denim bag:
- Ch 36 and sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each next chain.
- Crochet total of 10 rows of 35 sc. All single stitches through both loops.
- Ch 1 and sc around the base of bag – total 90 sc.
- From now on sc in back loops only and crochet 3 more round with main color.
- Join 2nd color and crochet 1 round.
- Switch back to main color and crochet 1 round.
- Change to 2nd color (or join 3rd color) and crochet 1 round.
- Change to main color and crochet 1 round.
- Crochet 8 rounds of letters with main and 2nd color (please see the video for stitch count).
- Crochet 1 round with main color.
- Change to 2nd color and crochet 1 round.
- Crochet 1 round with main color.
- Crochet 1 round with 2nd color.
- Crochet 1 round with main color.
- Make handles – with main color sc 20, ch 16 and skip 16 sc, sc 29, ch 16 and skip 16 sc, sc 9.
- Crochet in each sc and each chain.
- Crochet 2 more rounds, fasten off.
