Square Lace Doily

March 11, 2020

I’m happy to share this new pattern and tutorial to crochet the Square Lace Doily.

This is a great pattern because it allows you to crochet any size of square. You can make small coasters, or medium size placemats, or even a large tablecloth. It’s easy to crochet and perfect if you enjoy working on repetitive pattern.

Or how about crocheting Christmas dinner placemat in red:

I always block my doilies to give them pretty shape. I make the doily wet, stretch it out on blocking mat, pin it and spray some starch for extra firmness. Here is how I blocked the square lace doily:

I use Aunt Lydia’s crochet thread size 10, colors Wood Violet and White. Crochet hook is size 1,75 mm. The doily shown here has 26 rounds including the edge and measures about 10″ on each side.

The doily looks really great using the finer thread size 20. Then the crochet hook is size 1,5 mm or 1,25 mm.
