Spring is here and it’s getting greener outside every day, so I invite you to crochet this new spring leaf doily with me. The designer of this doily is unknown, it’s a free diagram online, but I’m very grateful for this beautiful pattern.
The skill level is intermediate because the pattern uses several special stitches as well as fine crochet thread and hook. With this pattern you will learn or practice different types of clusters.
The doily definitely needs blocking after you finish it. I usually make the doily wet, stretch it out on blocking mats and attach it with pins. I also spray some starch to give it extra firm shape. I use Aunt Lydia’s crochet thread size 10. Color in tutorial is Wasabi and 350 yards in one ball is enough for the doily. Crochet hook is 1.75 mm. My doily measures about 16 inches in diameter.
Abbreviations: ch = chain sl st = slip stitch dc = double crochet beg = beginning tr = triple crochet dc2tog = double crochet 2 together dc3-cl = 3 double crochet cluster hdc = half double crochet tr2tog = triple crochet 2 together sc = single crochet tr3-cl = 3 triple crochet cluster Special stitches: beg tr3-cl = ch 3, (start tr in indicated st, leave last 2 loops on hook) twice, yarn over and pull through 3 loops on hook. tr3-cl = (start tr in indicated st, leave last 2 loops on hook) 3 times, yarn over and pull through 4 loops on hook. beg dc3-cl = ch 2, (start dc in indicated st, leave last 2 loops on hook) twice, yarn over and pull through 3 loops on hook. dc3-cl = (start dc in indicated st, leave last 2 loops on hook) 3 times, yarn over and pull through 4 loops on hook.
- Ch 10, sl st in 1st ch to make a ring.
- Round 1 – make beg tr3-cl in the ring, ch 7, (tr3-cl, ch 7) 7 times, sl st in top of beg tr3-cl.
- Round 2 – sl st in each next 4 ch, beg dc3-cl, ch 8, (dc3-cl in 4th ch of ch7-space, ch 8) 7 times, sl st in top of beg dc3-cl.
- Round 3 – sl st in next ch8-space, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc throughout), dc 9 in same space, ch 1, *dc 10 in next ch8-space, ch 1, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
