This Valentine’s Day I will show you how to crochet the pretty heart doily in two colors, so you have something new to put on your table or give as a gift to loved one.
You have option to make the heart doily in one color, then it’s quite easy. If you choose to make it with two colors like I do in my video tutorial, the skill level is intermediate because it requires extra focus to switch 2 threads while crocheting complex stitches.

And here is how I blocked my heart doily! I made it wet, stretched it out on my blocking square and pinned it. I also like to use spray starch to give my doily the extra firm and crisp shape:

WRITTEN PATTERN OF HEART DOILY
I use Aunt Lydia’s crochet thread size 10 colors White and Orchid Pink. Crochet hook is size 1,5 mm. My doily measures appr. 12,5 inches in diameter.
Abbreviations:
R = round
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
dc = double crochet
beg = beg
- Make a slip knot, ch7 and join with a sl st in the 1st ch to form a ring.
- R1 – ch1 and sc16 into the ring, sl st in 1st sc.
- R2 – ch5 (1st 3ch count as dc), *dc in next sc + ch2, repeat from*, sl st in beg 3rd ch, total 16 dc.
- R3 – ch1 and sc in same space, *ch9 + sc in next dc + ch3 + sc in next dc, repeat from*, sl st in beg sc, total 8 big loops and 8 small loops.
- R4 – sl st in 1st big loop, ch3 (counts as 1st dc) + dc6 + ch3 + dc7 in same loop, *sl st in next small loop, in next big loop dc7 + ch3 + dc7 repeat from*, sl st in last small loop and also in 3rd beg ch.
- R5 – sl st in each next 6dc and 3ch-space, ch 6 (1st 3ch count as dc) + dc + ch3 + dc + ch3 + dc, ch4, *in the next 3ch-space dc + ch3 + dc + ch3 + dc + ch3 + dc, ch4, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R6 – sl st in the next 3ch-space, ch3+dc+ch3+dc2, ch1, skip next 3ch-space, in the next 3ch-space dc2+ch3+dc2, ch1, dc in 4ch-space, ch1, *in the next 3ch-space dc2+ch3+dc2, ch1, skip next 3ch-space, in the next 3ch-space dc2+ch3+dc2, ch1, dc in 4ch-space, ch1, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R7 – (please watch my video tutorial how to join and work with 2 threads) sl st in next dc, also in each next 3ch, also in next 2dc and 1ch-space, ch3+dc+ch3+dc2, ch3, dc5 in the next dc, ch3, *in the next 1ch-space dc2+ch3+dc2, dc5 in the next dc, ch3, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R8 – sl st in next dc and 3ch-space, ch3+dc+ch3+dc2, ch3, dc2 in each next 2 dc, dc1 in next dc, dc 2 in each next 2 dc (total 9 dc), ch3, *in the next 3ch-space (between dc2 and dc2) dc2+ch3+dc2, ch3, dc9, ch3, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R9 – sl st in next dc and 3ch-space, ch3+dc+ch3+dc2, ch2, dc2 in each next 3 dc, dc1 in each next 3 dc, dc2 in each next 3 dc (total 15 dc), ch2, *in the next 3ch-space dc2+ch3+dc2, ch2, dc15, ch2, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R10 – sl st in next dc and 3ch-space, ch 11 (1st 3ch count as dc), dc8tog, ch8, dc8tog (the second dc8tog starts in the space where last dc8tog finished), *ch8, dc1 in the next 3ch-space, ch8, dc8tog, ch8, dc8tog, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R11 – sl st in the next 2ch, ch3+dc2+ch3+dc3, *ch4, in the next 8ch-space dc3+ch3+dc3, ch4, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R12 – sl st in next 2dc and 3ch-space, ch3+dc+ch3+dc2, *in the next 4ch-space dc2+ch3+dc2, in the next 3ch-space dc2+ch3+dc2, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R13 – sl st in next dc and 3ch-space, ch3+dc+ch3+dc2, *in the next 3ch-space dc2+ch3+dc2, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R14-15 – sl st in next dc and 3ch-space, ch3+dc+ch3+dc2, ch1 *in the next 3ch-space dc2+ch3+dc2, ch1, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R16-17 – sl st in next dc and 3ch-space, ch3+dc+ch3+dc2, ch2 *in the next 3ch-space dc2+ch3+dc2, ch2, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R18 – sl st in next dc and 3ch-space, ch3+dc+ch3+dc2, ch3 *in the next 3ch-space dc2+ch3+dc2, ch3, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R19 – sl st in next dc and 3ch-space, ch3+dc+ch3+dc2, ch4 *in the next 3ch-space dc2+ch3+dc2, ch4, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- R20 – sl st in next dc and 3ch-space (or join 2nd color with slip knot in 3ch-space), ch3+dc1+ch3+dc2tog+ch4+dc2tog+ch3+dc2tog, ch4, enclosed sc (make sc inserting hook underneath and including the chains of last 2 rows (please see the video for illustration), ch4, *in the next 3ch-space dc2tog+ch3+dc2tog+ch4+dc2tog+ch3+dc2tog, ch4, enclosed sc, ch4, repeat from*, sl st in top of first dc2tog, fasten off.
