The colorful fall season is approaching and it calls for new decoration options, so let’s crochet the fabulous Harvest Doily. The designer of this doily is unknown, it’s a free diagram online, but I’m very grateful for this beautiful pattern. I hope my tutorial is helpful and inspiring to you to crochet your own Harvest Doily.
The skill level is easy to intermediate. With this pattern you will learn or practice different types of clusters and picots. I do recommend this project for beginner crocheters to learn lots of basic stitches and work with fine crochet thread.
The doily definitely needs blocking after you finish it. I usually make the doily wet, stretch it out on blocking mats and attach it with pins. I also spray some starch to give it extra firm shape. WRITTEN PATTERN OF HARVEST DOILY
I use Aunt Lydia’s crochet thread size 10. Color in tutorial is Pumpkin and 350 yards in one ball is enough for the doily. Crochet hook is 1.75 mm. My doily measures about 20 inches in diameter.
Abbreviations: ch = chain sl st = slip stitch dc = double crochet beg = beginning tr = triple crochet dc2tog = double crochet 2 together dc3-cl = 3 double crochet cluster hdc = half double crochet tr2tog = triple crochet 2 together sc = single crochet tr3-cl = 3 triple crochet cluster Special stitches: dc3-cl = (start dc in indicated st, leave last 2 loops on hook) 3 times, yarn over and pull through all remaining 4 loops on hook. tr3-cl = (start tr in indicated st, leave last 2 loops on hook) 3 times, yarn over and pull through all remaining 4 loops on hook. ch3-picot = ch 3 and sl st in 3rd ch from hook.
- Ch 8, sl st in 1st ch to make a ring.
- Round 1 – ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc 15 in the round (16dc), sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- Round 2 – ch 4 (counts as 1st tr), tr 1 in same st, tr 2 in each st (32 tr), sl st in 4th beg ch.
- Round 3 – ch 4 (counts as 1st dc and 1-ch), *dc in next st, ch 1, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- Round 4 – sl st in next ch1-space, ch 2 and dc2tog in same space (= beg dc3-cl), ch 3, *dc3tog (= regular dc3-cl) in next ch1-space, ch 3, repeat from*, to finish the round (instead of last 3-ch) ch 1 and hdc in top of beg dc3-cl.
- Round 5 – ch 1, sc in same space, ch 3, *sc in next ch3-space, ch 3, repeat from*, to finish the round ch 1 and hdc in 1st sc.
- Round 6 – ch 7 (counts as 1st dc and 4-ch), *dc in next ch3-space, ch 4, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- Round 7 – sl st in next ch4-space, ch 3, dc 3 in same space, *dc 4 in next ch4-space, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- Round 8 – sl st back in space between first and last dc of round 7, ch 4 (counts as beg tr), skip 4 dc, tr in space between next two groups of 4-dc, ch 6, *tr2tog with first leg going in same space where you did last tr and second leg going in next space between two 4-dc groups, ch 6, repeat from*, to finish the round ch 2 and tr in top of beg tr.
- Round 9 – ch 3 (counts as 1st dc here and throughout), dc 3 in same space, ch 3, *dc 4 in next ch6-space, ch 3, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- Round 10 – ch 3, dc 1 in each next 3 dc, ch 3, *dc 1 in each next 4 dc, ch 3, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- Round 11 – ch 3, dc 1 in each next 3 dc, ch 3, sc in next ch3-space, ch 3, dc 1 in each next 4 dc, ch 3, *dc 1 in each next 4 dc, ch 3, sc in next ch3-space, ch 3, dc 1 in each next 4 dc, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- Round 12 – ch 3, dc 1 in each next 3 dc, ch 3, dc2tog with first leg going in 1st ch3-space and second leg going in next ch3-space, ch 3, dc 1 in each next 4 dc, ch 3, *dc 1 in each next 4 dc, ch 3, dc2tog with first leg going in 1st ch3-space and second leg going in next ch3-space, ch 3, dc 1 in each next 4 dc, ch 3, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- Round 13 – repeat round 12.
- Round 14 – ch 2, dc in next dc (= beg dc2tog), dc 1 in each next 2 dc, ch 3, dc2tog with first leg going in 1st ch3-space and second leg going in next ch3-space, ch 3, dc 1 in each next 2 dc, dc2tog in next 2 dc, ch 7, *dc2tog in next 2 dc, dc 1 in each next 2 dc, ch 3, dc2tog with first leg going in 1st ch3-space and second leg going in next ch3-space, ch 3, dc 1 in each next 2 dc, dc2tog in next 2 dc, ch 7, repeat from*, sl st in top of beg dc2tog.
