How to block your crochet

August 7, 2021

Quite a few finished crochet items like doilies and table runners look much better when blocked. Blocking helps to give the crochet fabric desired shape and nice flat finished look.

How to block the crochet item? This is the question I get most often from my YouTube audience, and usually about doilies. So here are my recommendations about blocking.

The steps are the same, whether you’re blocking a doily, tapestry crochet or a scarf:

  1. Make your piece wet
  2. Stretch it out on blocking mats
  3. Attach it with pins
  4. If you prefer, spray some starch to give the piece firmer shape
  5. Let it dry completely before removing the pins

I recommend using these blocking mats and spray starch, available to buy on Amazon:
