Another vintage-style doily design online that caught my eye is this Golden Button Doily. And I found just the right color thread to make this – I use Lizbeth crochet thread size 10 color Gold. This is a free pattern online, designer is unknown. It is quite easy and has just 21 rounds.
The doily definitely needs blocking after you finish it. I usually make the doily wet, stretch it out on blocking mats and attach it with pins. I also spray some starch to give it extra firm shape. I use crochet thread size 10 (color Gold of Lizbeth thread or Aunt Lydia’s Golden), about 180 yards is needed. Crochet hook is size 1.75 mm. My doily measures about 13.5 inches in diameter.
Abbreviations: ch = chain sl st = slip stitch dc = double crochet beg = beginning dc3-cl = three double crochet cluster sc = single crochet dc2tog = double crochet 2 together dc3tog = double crochet 3 together
Special stitches: beg dc3-cluster = ch 2, (start dc in indicated st, leave last 2 loops on hook) twice, yarn over and pull through 3 loops on hook. dc3-cluster = (start dc in indicated st, leave last 2 loops on hook) 3 times, yarn over and pull through 4 loops on hook.
- Ch 7, sl st in 1st ch to make a ring.
- Round 1 = ch 3 (counts as 1st dc throughout), dc 19 in the ring (20 dc), sl st in 3rd beg ch.
- Round 2 = beg dc3-cl (see special stitches) in 1st st, ch 5, *skip next dc, dc3-cl in next dc, ch 5, repeat from*, sl st in top of beg dc3-cl.
- Round 3 = sl st in next ch5-space, ch 3, in same space dc + ch + dc2 + ch, *in next ch5-space dc2 + ch + dc2 + ch, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
