Fall Leaves Table Runner

November 12, 2021

New filet crochet pattern – Fall Leaves Table Runner! It’s easy to create beautiful seasonal images with filet crochet technique, so let’s crochet this decorative table runner.

WHAT IS FILET CROCHET?

Filet means ‘net’ or ‘mesh’ in French. Using just chains and double crochet stitches and following the image chart it’s easy to do. You will find the full Fall Leaves chart below in the written pattern section.

Filet crochet consists of two types of blocks or squares making up the grid: open blocks are made with two chains and one double crochet, and solid blocks are made with three double crochet stitches. The first block on each row starts with additional double crochet but from there it’s either ch2+dc (open) or dc3 (solid).

BLOCKING TABLE RUNNER

The table runner definitely needs blocking after you finish it. I usually make the piece wet, stretch it out on blocking mats and attach it with pins. I also spray some starch to give it extra firm shape. Let it dry completely before removing the pins.

I use Golo crochet thread size 10. Colors in tutorial are Bronze (color A), Brownish Red (color B) and Army Green (color C). One ball has 250 yards and one of each is enough for the table runner. Crochet hook is size 1.75 mm. With 87 rows of filet crochet and 3 rounds of edge my table runner measures about 22 inches long and 7.5 inches wide.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
beg = beginning
sl st = slip stitch
dc2-cl = 2 double crochet cluster (=double crochet 2 together in same st)
dc3-cl = 3 double crochet cluster (=double crochet 3 together in same st)
sc2tog = single crochet 2 together
  • With color A ch 71.
  • Row 1 = (reading chart from right to left) dc in 8th ch from the hook (=beg open block), *ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch, repeat from* (22 open blocks).

    I purchased your fall leaves table runner pattern and when I printed the pattern the graph does not print the empty chain space bars to tell how many needs to be skipped. The graph parts does not show up and the numbers are way to small to see. Please advise of what I can do. It is easier for me to read from paper than looking on the website.
