How to crochet Christmas Shopper

December 16, 2021

A few more days to crochet this easy Christmas shopper to help with all the last minute gift shopping. This one is easy to make following the chart and using filet crochet technique.

WHAT IS FILET CROCHET?

Filet means ‘net’ or ‘mesh’ in French. Using just chains and double crochet stitches and following the image chart it’s easy to do. You will find the Christmas Shopper chart below in the written pattern section.

Filet crochet consists of two types of blocks or squares making up the grid: open blocks are made with two chains and one double crochet, and solid blocks are made with three double crochet stitches. The first block on each row starts with additional double crochet but from there it’s either ch2+dc (open) or dc3 (solid).

I use Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend (light size 3) color Whipped Cream for white (color A) and Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton (medium size 4) for red (color B). Total of 250 yards of yarn is enough for the bag. Crochet hook is 4 mm. My bag measures about 14 inches wide and 15.5 inches long.

In case you want to use a different yarn, check out this great source for yarn substitution.
