The second dress in Barbie summer series is the Seaside Dress. And this one is even easier to make than the first Beachwalk Dress because it’s made all in one piece working sideways.
I use a beautiful thread from YarnArt called Tulip. It is 100% microfiber and I really recommend this for the Barbie Seaside Dress because it’s very shiny, silky and smooth. It works especially well with the ribbed pattern of this dress. And the colors match the Barbie doll with her fun blue hair. You can find the link to buy the thread in Written Pattern section below.

I use YarnArt crochet thread size 10. The thread is called Tulip and my color choice is Variegated Pastels. Crochet hook is 1.75 mm. You can also use cotton thread size 10, my pink dress is made with Aunt Lydia’s thread Shaded Pink. You’ll also need 5 tiny buttons or 6mm beads for back closure.
Abbreviations: ch = chain hdc = half double crochet blo = back loops only dc = double crochet sl st = slip stitch sc = single crochet
- Ch 45.
- Row 1 = hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each next ch (44 hdc).
- Row 2 = ch1 and turn, hdc blo 20, dc blo 24.
- Row 3 = ch 5 and turn, skip 1st dc, dc blo in next dc, (ch 1, skip next dc, dc blo in next dc) 11 times, hdc blo 20.
- Row 4 = ch 1 and turn, hdc blo 20, dc blo 24.
- Rows 5-10 = repeat rows 3 and 4.
- Row 11 = repeat row 3, first shoulder strap = ch 14, skip 6 rows on dress top, sl st in end space of row 7, sl st in space next to it, turn, sc in each 14 ch.
- Rows 12-22 = repeat rows 4 and 3.
- Row 23 = repeat row 3, second shoulder strap = ch 14, skip 6 rows on dress top, sl st in end space of row 7, sl st in space next to it, turn, sc in each 14 ch.
- Rows 24-26 = repeat rows 4, 3, 4.
- Row 27 = ch 5 and turn, skip 1st dc, dc blo in next dc, (ch 1, skip next dc, dc blo in next dc) 5 times, first buttonloop = ch 6, sl st in dc below, skip next dc, dc blo in next dc, (ch 1, skip next dc, dc blo in next dc) 3 times, second buttonloop = ch 6, sl st in dc below, skip next dc, dc blo in next dc, (ch 1, skip next dc, dc blo in next dc) twice, hdc blo 2, third buttonloop = ch 6, sl st in hdc below, hdc blo 8, fourth buttonloop = ch 6, sl st in hdc below, hdc blo 8, fifth buttonloop = ch 6, sl st in hdc below, hdc blo 2, fasten off, cut off thread.
- With fine sewing needle sew on 5 beads or buttons on the right side of back opening to match the buttonloops on the left side.
