To celebrate the important and joyous day today in US, I finished my fifth mandala called Fiesta (designed by Sandra Eng) from the book of Modern Crochet Mandalas:
I love the colors of Fiesta mandala and I was able to match them with my stash at home. Again, I used Lion Brand cotton bonbons and Alize Bella cotton yarn.
Crocheting mandalas is one of these activities that gives you the moments of joy and relaxation, as you work on the beautiful shapes and colors. I always enjoy the process of selecting my next mandala to crochet and picking the best color combination. So I regard this process as self-care, a moment to myself, not thinking and planning the selling or gifting my work.
With this mandala pattern there was a mismatch in written instructions and diagram. Written pattern says to crochet triple crochet stitches on the first round, but the diagram shows double crochet stitches. The photo of the mandala also suggests dc stitches on first round. I decided to make tr stitches and I think it looks good this way. And both options are fine but it would be great to have consistency in the book to avoid any confusion.
Despite this discrepancy issue, I still recommend the book to learn to crochet mandalas. The designs are adorable, some are classic, some are floral, a few seasonal, some even geometrical or other shapes, it’s a nice selection. I intend to make quite a few more mandalas.

Happy crocheting!
