Purple Reign is my first mandala to crochet from the book of Modern Crochet Mandalas.
The pattern is designed by Melinda Miller, one of the designers featured in the book. And the book itself is published by well-known crafts publisher Interweave.
Looking through the photos of the mandalas I was definitely inspired and compelled to try most of them. And that means I need a big supply of fine cotton yarn. Some of the mandalas need just 2 colors but others require as many as 10 colors. I will get more Lion Brand cotton bonbons because they will be perfect for most mandalas.
The Purple Reign pattern is easy to follow and I would say the skill level is intermediate. The book includes both written instructions and the diagram. It’s great because they help each other out whenever there’s a question.
I tend to rely more on written instructions when the pattern includes lot of special stitches like this one. And when I started the last round I noticed a difference between written and graphic patterns. I decided to go with the diagram because it looked more correct. So if you decide to make the Purple Reign mandala, pay attention to the last round.
