Pumpkin Table Runner

Pumpkin Table Runner

November 22, 2024

The Pumpkin Table Runner features an array of vibrant orange pumpkins, gracefully centered in this filet crochet pattern. The pumpkins are accompanied by the fall leaves, creating an intricate tapestry of the season’s bounty. Whether it’s for a festive Thanksgiving dinner or simply to bring a touch of fall into your home, the Pumpkin Table Runner adds warmth and charm to any table setting. 🍂🎃

WHAT IS FILET CROCHET?

Filet means ‘net’ or ‘mesh’ in French. Using just chains and double crochet stitches and following the image chart it’s easy to do. You will find the full Pumpkin chart below in the written pattern section.

Filet crochet consists of two types of blocks or squares making up the grid: open blocks are made with two chains and one double crochet, and solid blocks are made with three double crochet stitches. The first block on each row starts with additional double crochet but from there it’s either ch2+dc (open) or dc3 (solid).

BLOCKING TABLE RUNNER

The Pumpkin Table Runner definitely needs blocking after you finish it. I usually make the piece wet, stretch it out on blocking mats and attach it with pins. I also spray some starch to give it extra firm shape. Let it dry completely before removing the pins.

VIDEO TUTORIAL OF PUMPKIN TABLE RUNNER

WRITTEN PATTERN OF PUMPKIN TABLE RUNNER

I use crochet thread size 10 orange (color A) for the image, and green (color B) for the border. For the two pumpkins I used about 300 yards of thread. Crochet hook is size 1.75 mm. My table runner measures about 20 inches long and 10 inches wide.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
incr = increase
beg = beginning
sp = space
decr = decrease
sl st = slip stitch
sc2tog = single crochet 2 together
yo = yarn over

Pattern notes:
- With asymmetrical pattern like the Pumpkin you need to read the chart from right to left on each odd-numbered row (1,3,5,etc.) and from left to right on each even-numbered row (2,4,6,etc.).
- For the 3rd pumpkin finish on row 76, make 4 rows of open blocks, then repeat rows 9-40, for the 4th pumpkin repeat rows 45-76. (Between each pumkin make 4 rows of open blocks).
  • With color A ch 45.
  • Row 1 = (read the chart from right to left) dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each next ch (42dc = 14 solid blocks).
  • Row 2 = (read the chart from left to right)
    • increase at the beg of row: ch 14, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each next 10 ch, dc in next dc (=incr 4 solid blocks),
    • 1 solid block: dc in each next 3 dc,
    • 12 open blocks: (ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc) 12 times,
    • 1 solid block: dc in each next 3 dc,
    • increase at the end of row: tr in base of last dc, tr 11 inserting hook for each new tr into the bottom loops of last tr (=incr 4 solid blocks).
