Here is a truly vintage crochet doily pattern from 1846. I call it the “waves doily” because the edge reminds me of rolling ocean waves.
This one is fairly easy and works up quickly, so it’s perfect for beginners or anyone who enjoys finishing the whole doily while watching a movie. That’s what I like to do!
The crochet waves doily definitely needs blocking after you finish it. I usually make the doily wet, stretch it out on blocking mats and attach it with pins. I also spray some starch to give it extra firm shape.

WRITTEN PATTERN OF WAVES DOILY
I use Aunt Lydia’s crochet thread (color gold and aqua in tutorial) size 10 and crochet hook size 2.25 mm to crochet the waves doily. My doily measures about 9.5 inches in diameter.

Hi, love this pattern! I made it a while ago and was now wondering if I can make it larger if I repeat the pattern?
Hi Nadia, you can definitely experiment. I haven’t made this doily bigger so I don’t have a stitch count to give you but please try and let me know how it worked out. Happy crocheting!
