The Waffle Stitch Cozy design is inspired by my Waffle Pumpkin that I published last fall. Using the same waffle stitch the cozy pattern has a few less rounds to crochet but instead of one color we use two colors of thread to bring out the vertical stripes.
When you finish the cozy, you will find that it is quite stretchy, so you can fit different kinds of things in it, whether a little vase, a jar or a flower pot. My cozy measures about 3 inches from top to bottom and 3.5 inches in diameter.

I use Aunt Lydia’s crochet thread size 3, colors Silver (color A) and Plum (color B). One ball has 150 yds in it and it’s more than enough for the Waffle Stitch Cozy. Crochet hook is size 2 mm.
Abbreviations: A = color A B = color B ch = chain dc = double crochet beg = beginning sl st = slip stitch fpdc = front post double crochet yo = yarn over bpdc = back post double crochet sc = single crochet Special stitches: fpdc = yarn over, insert hook from front to back to front again around the post of next st, yarn over, pull the loop through st – 3 loops on hook, (yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook) twice bpdc = yarn over, insert hook from back to front to back again around the post of next st, yarn over, pull the loop through st – 3 loops on hook, (yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook) twice reverse sc = working from left to right (instead of usual direction) insert hook from front to back in next stitch to the right, yarn over, pull through the stitch, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook
