I always get a lot of inspiration from nature and this time I decided to crochet the Sunflower. It’s because my Dad has these amazing huge sunflowers growing in his garden, so naturally I wanted to recreate the beautiful flower.
The Sunflower is easy to crochet. I made them in 3 sizes:
- Small flower is perfect to use as coaster. It measures 4.5 inches in diameter. I used Aunt Lydia’s crochet thread size 10 (brown, orange and yellow) and crochet hook size 1.75 mm.
- Medium flower is the one made in the video tutorial. It measures 6 inches in diameter. I found three different types of yarn in my stash, so this is a perfect project to use your leftover yarn. Brown (color A) is Lion Brand Bonbon cotton (weight fine – size 2), orange (color B) is Lizbeth crochet thread size 3 and yellow (color C) is Alize Bella cotton yarn (also weight fine – size 2). Alize Bella is currently not available on Amazon, so I would use Lizbeth thread 3 color Bright Yellow. Crochet hook is size 2.25 mm.
- Big flower measures about 9.5 inches in diameter. I used Caron Simply Soft yarn and crochet hook size 5 mm.
Check out the handy crochet WIP notecards in my Etsy shop! I use them all the time to list the details of my projects, so I don’t need to waste my time on figuring out which hook I used, where I found the pattern, or when I actually started this project! And if you’re like me, with several WIPs at once, it’s a very helpful tool! I also created the WIP notebook to keep it all together and that one is available in my Amazon bookstore.
