The end of summer always associates with Greece for me because it’s the perfect time to visit, and since all traveling is so limited these days, let’s crochet the Greek doily instead.
The Greek doily is unique since it combines both usual crochet stitches (in white color) and filet crochet technique (in blue). So it’s a great project to learn some new crochet skills.
You can make this in one color, all white for example, or add some fun colors. Blue and white have always been symbolic of Greece, so that’s why I chose them.
And my doily measures about 13.5 inches in diameter after blocking.
I recommend blocking this doily after you finish it. I usually make the doily wet, stretch it out on blocking mats and attach it with pins. I also spray some starch to give it extra firm shape. Let it dry completely before removing the pins.

NB! On rounds 3, 6, 9 and 12 I show the special stitch and call it “puff stitch”. It is more correct to call it “bobble stitch” because it includes extra step, please see “special stitches” for the exact stitch description.
Janet Weeks A very beautiful work with blue the color of the Aegean Sea. The Greek motif is lovely. Thanks for sharing! PS. The border is awesome!
WRITTEN PATTERN OF GREEK DOILY
I use Aunt Lydia’s crochet thread size 10 white (color A) and Golo crochet thread size 10 color Lake Orchid (color B). Crochet hook is size 1.75 mm. I recommend Golo thread if you haven’t used it already beacuse it’s absolutely beautiful and its silky smooth texture makes it so enjoyable to work with.
Abbreviations: ch = chain sl st = slip stitch R = round beg = beginning st = stitch
Special stitches: Beg bobble stitch = ch 3, (yarn over, insert hook in space required, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through first 2 loops on hook) three times, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on hook NB! Puff stitch skips the 2nd yarn over and pulling though first 2 loops Bobble stitch = (yarn over, insert hook in space required, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through first 2 loops on hook) four times, yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on hook
