The Crossed Stitch Placemat will add the warmth of handmade table decor to all the upcoming holiday dinners. It is quick and easy, and you will learn or practice a special stitch called crossed half double crochet. In addition to giving the nice texture to the pattern, it’s also very enjoyable stitch to work with, so you’ll find yourself keep crocheting more placemats.
Using the same stitch it’s easy to crochet the square dishcloth. See the instructions for dishcloth right below the placemat pattern.

I use Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton, the color shown in tutorial is Bayleaf (color A) and Ecru (color B). The dark red color is Beets. Ball size is 3.5oz/100g, 186yds/170m. One ball of both main color and contrast color is enough. The yarn weight is medium 4. Crochet hook is 4 mm.
In case you want to use a different yarn, check out this great source for yarn substitution.
