This is intermediate skill level project involving some special stitches like front post double crochet and picots. Hopefully the video tutorial is helpful to you!

The doily definitely needs blocking after you finish it. I usually make the doily wet, stretch it out on blocking mats and attach it with pins. I also spray some starch to give it extra firm shape. Let it dry completely before removing the pins.

WRITTEN PATTERN OF CHRISTMAS TREE DOILY

I use Aunt Lydia’s crochet thread size 10 and the colors are Myrtle Green and White. Crochet hook is size 1.75 mm. My doily measures about 14.5 inches in diameter.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
R = round
fpdc = front post double crochet
beg = beginning

Special stitches:
fpdc = yarn over, insert hook from front to back to front again around the post of next st, yarn over, pull the loop through st – 3 loops on hook, (yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook) twice
ch3-picot = ch 3 and sl st in stitch below
  • Ch 12, sl st in 1st ch to make a ring.
  • R1 – ch 1, sc 24 in the ring, sl st in 1st sc.
  • R2 – ch 3 (counts as 1st dc here and throughout), dc in each sc, sl st in 3rd beg ch (24 dc).
  • R3 – ch 3, fpdc around the post of next dc, dc in next dc, ch 3, *dc in next dc, fpdc around the post of next dc, dc in next dc, ch 3, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
  • R4 – *ch3+fpdc+dc (same as last round), ch 5, repeat from* and replace ch3 with dc (here and throughout), sl st in 3rd beg ch.
  • R5 – *ch3+fpdc+dc, ch 2, dc 2 in 3rd ch of ch5-space, ch 2, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
  • R6 – *ch3+fpdc+dc, ch 2, dc 2 in next dc, dc 1 in next dc, ch 2, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
  • R7 – *ch3+fpdc+dc, ch 2, dc 2 in next dc, dc 1 in next dc, dc 2 in next dc, ch 2, repeat from*, sl st in 3rd beg ch.
