Glam Purse

June 28, 2025

If you’ve been looking to add a touch of sparkle to your handmade accessories, come join me in cocheting the Glam Purse — a fancy-looking little stunner that’s surprisingly easy to make. With just a hook, some glitzy bulky T-shirt yarn, and a sprinkle of creativity, you’ll have a chic statement piece that turns heads and sparks compliments.

There’s just something magical about making your own crochet purse. It’s more than a project—it’s a little expression of style, skill, and heart you can carry with you. Every stitch holds a bit of your personality, and when someone asks where you bought it, the joy of saying “I made it myself!” never gets old. Crocheting purses is one of my favorite ways to play with textures, colors, and flair, and the Glam Purse is the perfect canvas for that kind of creative fun.

VIDEO TUTORIAL OF GLAM PURSE

WRITTEN PATTERN OF GLAM PURSE

Materials:

  • I used YarnArt Metallic Club Super Bulky T-Shirt Yarn. The contents of the yarn is 100% polyester. One ball has 6.35 oz / 180 grams, 60 yrds / 55 meters, and the purse requires about 100 yards (2 balls of Metallic Club yarn)
  • The crochet hook is 6.5 mm
  • My purse has metal handles and chain for strap, that you can get on Amazon
  • Magnetic snap
  • Large tapestry needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Clear stretchy cord 0.5 mm
  • Sewing needle

Finished size:

My bag measures about 7.5 inches wide and 6 inches tall.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
beg = beginning
sl st = slip stitch
blo = back loops only
hdc = half double crochet

Special stitch:
Long hdc = insert hook into the base of next hdc on previous round, pull up a long loop and finish hdc as usual (please see video for illustration).

💡 A quote about special stitches from Annie's Attic:

"Long stitches are a type of decorative stitch that can be made with any of the basic stitches. They are created by working the start of a basic stitch in a row below, pulling the stitch up to the current row, then completing it. Doing this produces long spike-like stitches. If long stitches are worked in a contrasting color, they produce a fun effect.
Note: Crochet does not have standardized naming conventions for special stitches. Designers may call stitches by whatever name they prefer. For this reason, it is difficult to search online for how a particular special stitch is created. Another reason it is hard to find the “correct” way to work a particular special stitch is because each designer might work a special stitch in their own unique way. Be sure to follow the directions stated in your pattern for how to work the stitch."

Pattern notes:
- Ch in beginning of rounds doesn't count as a stitch.
- It is helpful to insert stitch marker in 1st stitch of each round of the base.
NB! Please see the video tutorial for additional help, and get some useful tips for working with bulky T-shirt yarn.

  • Repeat both steps with the 2nd half of the snap.
