About me

About me

My story

Hi, I’m Raine, a maker and blogger behind HandmadebyRaine. Crafts is clearly in my genes. Both my grandmothers were so talented at creating crochet, knitting and needlework arts. My Mom taught me to knit and sew my own clothes at a time where there was not enough money to buy them.

As a child I was fascinated with cross-stitching the cardboard pictures, the ones that kids learn to make their own crafts with. From then on I developed a habit of always working on something during downtime, whether knitting, crocheting, stitching or sewing. I loved it all but I am mostly focused on crochet these days, and doing occasional knitting in between. And to this day I can’t sit still on the couch without my fingers moving. I am so grateful to my grandmothers and Mom for giving me the gene of crafting. It’s the most therapeutic and rewarding activity!

HandmadebyRaine began with a simple desire: to share the joy and beauty of crochet with others. In 2017, I uploaded my first tutorial to YouTube, not knowing if anyone would watch—but hoping someone might find inspiration or encouragement in it. That small leap opened the door to something far greater.

A few months later, I launched my blog to document and share written patterns. It became a space where creativity met clarity—a way to turn inspiration into something tangible, something others could stitch into their own lives. Soon after, I began publishing downloadable digital patterns, giving makers instant access to designs that reflected both tradition and modern style.

Crochet became more than a craft; it became a journey of learning, teaching, and evolving. With each design, I discovered new techniques, refined my aesthetic, and deepened my connection to the global maker community. HandmadebyRaine grew one stitch at a time—from a hobby to a creative business rooted in integrity, empowerment, and a deep love for fiber art.

Today, I continue designing with the same spark that started it all: the joy of creating something meaningful and helping others do the same. I mostly enjoy making practical items that can be used and reused every day, always making sure my creations look beautiful and special through paying close attention to detail and incorporating modern designs. Most of the time I try to find unique ideas to bring to life, but I also enjoy working on classic and vintage patterns.

I am excited to share my crochet creations, collections and tutorials with you! Crochet is a wonderful technique to create handmade items and the possibilities are endless. You can really let your imagination and creativity take over with these projects. So if you have a passion to create something out of nothing, crochet along with me. Enjoy browsing my creations, find your favorite project in my tutorial library and give it a try. I hope you find lots of useful tips and great ideas to create your own crochet projects!

✨ Brand Statement ✨
“HandmadebyRaine is all about blending timeless craft with playful style. Inspired by retro 1950s diner design, my logo reflects the warmth and nostalgia I bring to every crochet piece. The circle and angled banner give a classic, welcoming feel, while the pink and light teal colors highlight both creativity and elegance. Just like a favorite vintage diner sign, my brand is inviting, cheerful, and made with care — celebrating the joy of handmade crochet.”
